TRAIN TO AIX-en-PROVENCE (MARSEILLES) – Saturday 10/15/11 - Organizer: Joyce, (ladysail2)

We can take the Metro from the Vieux-Port Metro stop. Day tickets are 5 euros, single tickets are 1.7euros. They can be bought at the metro stop...
The Metro runs every 5 minutes. We would have 2 stops to ride and will be getting off at Saint-Charles metro stop.
The TER train leaves Saint-Charles station at 8:44am/9:05am/10:44am. I hope to make one of the first two trains. The trip to Aix takes about 45 minutes. The cost of the ticket is about 7.5 euros. I'm not sure, but I imagine that there is a return ticket. Don't forget to validate your ticket.
The TER train leave Aix at 2:11pm/2:51pm/3:11pm/4:11pm The ship leaves at 6pm...so it's best to be back in port by 5pm..so I suggest that the latest train to take back would be the 4:11pm train.
Once in Aix, we walk up an incline to the main level of the city. There's a tourist booth close by. I'm going to stop there to pick up some maps and any other interesting looking pamphlets.
I'm going to Aix to see the markets...I'll have a map to hand out that I'll print from home. The tourist map might be better, but I don't know.
There is alot to see in Aix...it is a very pretty city..lots of outdoor cafes, quaint shops, nice stores....etc.
One thing I'm not sure about is...how we get from the ship to the metro stop. I think we need to take a shuttle from through the port. The metro stop looks like it's 'right there'...so I'll ask around about that part of the trip. I suppose we could all meet by a certain time off the ship, after the gangway....
I'm not a tour guide, I'm just helping folks to get to Aix by train. I've taken the bus there, and now want to take the train. You're welcome to come along..and then do your own thing in Aix.
